ACTIVITIES held from 21st January to 23rd January 2012

Special Day: What do Chefs and Bakers do?

A special day called “what do chef and bakers do?” was organized in all the nursery classes on 23rd January 2012. The main aim of this Special Day was to reinforce the community helpers’ chef and baker. The Baker’s tools like baking tray, mixing bowl, oven etc, were shown to the children one by one. A demonstration of the process of baking a cake and also decorating the cake was also explained to the children. As a follow up activity the children made bakers hat which they carried with them home. The children enjoyed this session and activity a lot.

Chinese New Year

On 21st of January, Chinese New Year was celebrated in all the classes of pre-primary. Children were very excited to hear about all the different customs and traditions such as the night parade where people take part wearing tiger & lion masks and includes dragon dances as well. They heard about the custom where children are given money in red envelopes for good luck. After this children were very enthusiastic about making their own puppets. Nursery children made a tiger finger puppet. Jr.Kg children made a dragon puppet. Sr.Kg children made a lion dancing puppet. They had lot of fun making the puppets and very proud to take them home to show it to their parents.

ACTIVITIES held from 4th January to 11th January 2012

Making a Giant Jam Sandwich

The Giant Jam Sandwich was made in all the nursery classes on 11th January 2012. A story about a village which was surrounded by insects was told to the children. In the story the villagers made a giant sandwich with strawberry jam to capture the insects. After the story was narrated the children were asked to make a giant jam sandwich. Children had a lot of fun making their own sandwich. Children enjoyed a lot while eating the sandwich made by them. As the reinforcement the children were asked to answer questions about the sequence of incidents of the story narrated.

Kite Flying Day

To provide an opportunity for fine motor skills development and free expression, the children of Preprimary had a Special Day called Kite Flying Day organized. All the little children went out to the school playground and saw how colourful kites were flown. The children were very excited to see the kites flying high in the sky. In the classroom, the children of Nursery and Jr.Kg made colourful kites which they carried home and the children of Sr. Kg were encouraged to draw what they had seen on the playground.

A Bug’s Life - Movie Watch

On January 4th a special day was organized for the nursery children. A Bug’s life movie was shown to the children. The movie is about insects. The main aim of this special day is to encourage the children to identify the different insects and to reinforce on their physical features and characteristics. Children enjoyed this movie very much. They were able to identify the insects. They were asked to talk about the insects like ants, grasshopper which they saw in the movie. Children had lot of fun watching their creepy crawly friends talking to each other in the movie.

Special Day: Alphabet Treasure Hunt Day

A Special day called Alphabet Treasure Hunt day was celebrated in all the nursery classes on 2nd January 2012. The aim of this activity was to reinforce the letters of the alphabet and their sounds. The wooden cut outs of the letters and some objects were hidden around the class room and the children were asked to find them. Once they found it they were asked to identify and name the object and the letter. Children had lots of fun during this play way learning game. They were able to identify the letters and also the objects thus achieving the main objective.

Little Doctor/Nurse at School

Doctor/Nurse dress up day was celebrated in all the nursery classes on 19th January 2012. Children came dressed up as Doctors and Nurses. We set up a Doctor’s Clinic where we displayed all the Doctor’s tools. The main aim of this special day was to reinforce the community helpers: “The Doctor and the Nurse”. They were encouraged to check the temperature of the boy and girl puppets and to listen to their heart beats using the toy stethoscopes. Children had lots of fun during this activity and many of them told that they wanted to become Doctors/Nurse when they grow up.

CLEAN CITY GREEN CITY CAMPAIGN

On 5th January 2012 a cleanliness drive was aimed at mobilizing Sr.Kg Vibgyor. This activity  made children  aware  about keeping  their  environment  clean   and also  taught  them about  sorting  garbage.  The  teachers had  made   posters   saying  “Clean city  dream  city” and Clean city green city campaign  by  Vibgyor kids.  There  was  an activity conducted  in  the beginning  wherein  there were two  tubs  which included a green  tub  for  wastes  which can be  added  to  our  compost  pit and  the  other  tub  for  non-biodegradable  garbage. The children learned   the difference  between  bio-degradable  and non-bio-degradable  garbage . Later  the children marched  into  different  classrooms led  by  their  teachers. Slogans were raised  relating   to protect  our  planet  by  the  children  which  created a  lot  of excited  attention  to the  group.  The  Earth Pal  badges  were also  proudly  displayed  on the  children. They spoke  about Reduce…Reuse and Recycle. They took an oath to protect our planet and stay as earth pals through their life.

Visit to the Park

The children of Sr. KG visited a park to familiarize with nature around us and to see different types of plants , birds and butterflies. It was a wonderful day out for the children breathing fresh air from the trees around, enjoying the beauty of the nature. They played with their friends ,on the swings , slides, see-saws, merry go rounds, playing in the sand,. They enjoyed the delicious snacks sitting on the mats which was arranged on the green grass. Later teachers took them to a short nature trail, children were excited to see different kinds of flowers, leaves butterflies. It was a good learning for them while having lots of fun.

Fun Day With Santa!!

On 23rd December 2011, The Pre-Primary students celebrated Christmas. The corridors were decorated with Santa's Christmas tree, candy sticks, bells, candles and wreaths to welcome the children. The kids enjoyed the music, dance, art activities, and the movie- 'Jingle all the Way'. The mood was further enhanced with Christmas carols being played and sung by the students. Santa walked in with his goody bag, distributing gifts to the children and wishing them Merry Christmas. Students of Nursery made Christmas Cards adorned with Christmas trees, Jr. Kg made Christmas tree and cards with snow- men and Senior Kg made decorative Christmas wreaths for their parents. At the end of this fun-filled day children wished each other season’s greetings and good wishes for the long awaited holidays.

Movie Watch Two brothers

On 21st December 2011, the kids celebrated “KIDS FOR TIGER DAY “. We discussed with the children about saving tigers and the reasons for it to be one of the endangered species. The children were already charged by the cause and were making their own suggestions and plans to save tigers in future. To reinforce this theme they watched the movie “ TWO BROTHERS “The movie was an entertaining tale of how two cubs were ruthlessly separated from each other and were nurtured in different ways. The movie brings back two brothers together at the same platform, battle ring urging them to fight each other and the movie ends with the tigers escaping from the people and going back to their home, the forest.
The children were fully involved in the movie posing a question or two once in a while and also feeling for the tigers when they were separated and giving out a sigh of relief when they united. They were very happy to see the tigers going back to their real homes in the end. By the end of the movie, they fully understood and became aware about the plight of tigers in the wild. Over all the movie “TWO BROTHERS “ was an excellent tool for reinforcement of why we must save tigers . Later kids enjoyed making tiger r door sign .

ACTIVITIES held on 11th November 2011

Ocean Wall

The kids of Sr.KG had a special day organized on 11-11-11 called the "Ocean Wall". This was conducted to reinforce the ongoing theme about Marine Animals. This day gave an opportunity to the children to recreate the under water world as per their imagination. The children painted a blue background for the ocean on a huge chart paper. A group of them had been given some green crepe paper for making the sea weeds and the rest were given cut outs of different kinds of fishes that they had been learning through the concept sessions. These fishes which included the fish, jelly fish, star fish etc., were painted in different colors by the children and the jelly fish was decorated with a cellophane paper to show its tentacles. All these were then stuck on the blue ocean wall painted earlier. The kids actively participated and enjoyed creating the under water world.

ACTIVITIES held on 31st October 2011

Trick or Treat… its Halloween!!

On 31st October 2011, the children of the pre-primary celebrated Halloween. The teachers shared information on Halloween with the students and explained how it is celebrated in different parts of the world. Children were excited to learn new Halloween art work. The nursery children peeked through their pumpkin masks which they made and Jr. KG children proudly made their Halloween hats and wore them. The Sr. KG children enjoyed making impressive Jack-o-Lanterns. The students very proudly displayed their Halloween artwork , it was a fun experience for them.

ACTIVITIES held in October 2011

Dazzled by the Aerospace Museum

The Sr.KG children went on a field trip to the Heritage centre and Aerospace Museum, Bangalore. The Museum which was established in 2001,showcases the growth of the Indian aviation industry and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) across six decades. The children were shown various aircrafts and helicopters, Aircraft engine models, Flight simulators, a mock Air Traffic Control Tower and exhibits of the Indian aviation history. There was a flight simulator too, which the students enjoyed tremendously. The children had fun exploring some of the old aircrafts which were kept outside the museum. Children were very inquisitive about the fighter planes, and some of the children were so impressed by the experience that they started making future goals about how they too want to fly a plane one day . This trip was fun and educational at the same time.

ACTIVITIES held on 21st October 2011

The Festival of Lights

Traditional Party was celebrated in all the Pre-primary classes on the 21st of October 2011. Children and teachers came dressed in traditional clothes and the classrooms were decorated with colourful rangoli, torans and lanterns. Children were told about the significance of Diwali and how it is celebrated in our country. The children of each grade made a Diwali card for their parents. The children of Nursery made a lantern and the children of Jr. Kg. made torans. The children of Sr. Kg. made a wind chime. It was a happy sight to see the children wish each other a Happy Diwali!.

ACTIVITIES held from 23rd August to 30th August 2011

GRANDPARENTS DAY

Grandparents Day is an event organized to mark the importance of grandparents’ role in a child’s life. It was celebrated during the last week of August from 23rd to 30th across pre-primary sections. The theme - “Hawaiian Party” was to bring about the concept of love and warmth of the Grandparents which can be compared to the sunshine on the beaches, and their boundless love to the ocean itself. They made paper flowers for their grandmothers and garlands for their grandfathers as mementos. Teachers, children and the grandparents were dressed in colorful skirts and tops, with flower garlands hanging around their necks. The children handed over paper flowers to the grandmothers and garlands to grandfathers that they had prepared as mementos. The children performed a dance and song for their grandparents and the latter made a beautiful hat for the little ones. At the end of the celebration, everyone was filled with joy in the heart and one would not miss to notice the enhanced and enriched bond between the grandparents and the grandchildren.

ACTIVITIES held on 17th August2011

A day of fun with the colour blue……

Fun Day is an important event in the annual Nursery School calendar. It was celebrated on 17.08.11 with Blue colour being the theme of the day. Children and teachers were dressed in shades of blue .All Nursery classrooms were tastefully decorated with cut outs of blue coloured objects such as blue berries, blue jay birds, flowers, jeans and blue whale. The aim of this special day was to reinforce the colour blue. The main activities of this fun filled day were Starch Painting, sorting blue seeds, building a tower using blue blocks and dancing with blue streamers. Kids enjoyed all these activities a lot and the objective to reinforce the colour blue was achieved.

My heroes... My parents.

On 21st July 2011, the budding artists of pre-primary celebrated Parent’s Day in school. Our little ones from Nursery made paper crowns decorated with stars and hearts for their beloved parents. The tiny tots of Jr. Kg and Sr. Kg made tulip flower cards to shower their affection on their parents. Kids were overly excited and proud to take their beautiful creations home. The motive behind the activity was to reinforce the feeling of being blessed to have such loving and caring parents in our life. It was a small gesture to thank parents who make our lives so wonderful.

Glimpse into the splendor and serenity of Hotel Lotus Star

The Sr.Kg students have been learning about different professionals in their ongoing theme, With the purpose of knowing some more professionals from the outside world, the children were taken to Hotel Lotus Star, where they were greeted by the Hotel Manager, who took them around the premises introducing them to the receptionist, the housekeeping department, and the entire hotel staff. The Hotel Manager explained to the children the different facilities provided by the hotel. Lastly he led them to the kitchen where the children were greeted by the chefs in action, preparing different delicacies. The trip to the hotel was refreshing for the little children, and a fun experience for them.

Journey Through Our Senses

The best way of learning is not by theory but by experience. To enable the little ones’ to learn and remember for life the sense station activities were organized. Each sense had a booth dedicated with various colorful, noisy, smelly, feely and tasty activities. The parents and the children had a wonderful time doing these activities and learning from them. Sense Stations provided them to learn with all their senses: Seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting and touching. Sense station gave them an opportunity to move actively and participate in all activities. Sense Station was conducted on 21st and 22nd July in nursery classrooms.

Red day – Fun day

The corridors and classrooms of our Nursery section were in full splendor on July 13th, 2011 as we celebrated Colour Fun Day-Red Day. All the classrooms were aesthetically decorated with lots of pictures of red flowers, fruits and streamers. All the nursery students and teachers made it a point to dress in red coloured clothes. The main objective of this special day was to reinforce the colour red. The teachers had planned many activities like sorting red beads, making strawberry wall hangings and building towers with red blocks, which the students enjoyed tremendously. The students had lot of fun during the music and movement activity with redstreamers.

Gurur Brahma, Gurur Vishnu, Gurur Devo, Maheshwara……

Guru Purnima was celebrated in all the pre-primary classes on 14th July, 2011. The main objective was to help children understand the importance and significance of the festival “Guru Purnima”. The teachers explained to the students that a guru can be the teacher at school or the elders at home like parents and grandparents and even their sisters or brothers. Nursery children were taught to sing a song called “I love you teacher”., while the Jr KG children had a colouring activity called “My Guru colouring worksheet” and the Sr KG children were told a story about a sage called Vyas. On this occasion the students were also taught to chant the shloka “Guru Brahma Guru Vishnu……”.

My Buddy is a Star

Buddies are the most important ingredient in the recipe of life to emphasize this; our tiny tots of Jr. KG celebrated “Buddy Day” on July 19th, 2011. In anticipation of the eagerly awaited event the students created beautiful invitation cards inviting their buddies to spend a day with them at school. It was an exciting day for the students who walked in to their well decorated classrooms with their buddies. The Jr.Kg students very proudly took their buddies around their classrooms replete with buddy messages and introduced their buddies to their classmates. The children played games together and relished the special snacks arranged specially for them. They also had great fun making “Buddy Star Photo frames” which they gifted each other to cherish their friendship.

ACTIVITIES held from 27th June to 29th June 2011

Special Day for Jr. KG – Tactile Sensory Zone

On Monday, 27h June 2011, Junior KG had a special day-“Tactile Sensory Zone” to reinforce the concept of sense of touch.
Sense of touch is very important as it helps children to classify objects as being hot, cold, rough, etc. Tactile Sensory Zone was set up, which incorporated sensory integration activities where the children use their hands and fingertips to feel various objects and differentiate their texture. Tactile perception refers to the interpretation of information sent to the brain from the fingertips.
The aim of this activity was to enhance their tactile perception as well as their self confidence. Participation from the children was at its peak.

A Visit to Sankara Eye Hospital

The children of Junior KG had an opportunity to visit Sankara Eye Hospital on 28th June 2011 . The excited children boarded the school buses which took them to the hospital. The little ones saw the Refraction where they were explained about the eye tests that are conducted at the hospital. The children were then shown a movie about how to take good care of their eyes. On their way back they saw the Opticals where several spectacles were displayed. This was a great day for the tiny tots who learnt a lot about their eyes and the sense of sight!!

FIELD TRIP TO THE PARK

The field trip to the Park was organized on the 28th and 29th of June 2011. The children of nursery were taken to the AECS Layout park by the school bus. At the park the children played on the swings and slides and seesaws. Along with the teachers the children sang rhymes and played games there. The little ones were an excited lot to go out on a field trip, for the first time from school. It indeed wonderful to see the children so happy and each one had some thing to tell their parents when they got back home.

ACTIVITIES held from 15th June to 22nd June 2011

Sing Along Mommy

"Sing Along Mommy" was celebrated for two days in Nursery. Sections A to F celebrated the day on 15th June and sections G to M on 16th June. Moms’ and the little ones had an enjoyable time singing together, their favorite nursery rhymes. A game was played with mom and child and each one of them had a very good and memorable experience. At the end of the day the mothers were a happy lot to see their little ones settled in their new environment and were glad that their tiny tots are in secure hands.

A Day at School With Daddy

There was happiness in the air as we celebrated Dads’ Day in the nursery classes. This day was celebrated by Sections A to F on 21st June and Sections G to M on 22nd June 2011. This special day was organized to let the fathers experience a day in the class room with his child. Dads ‘enthusiastically took part in the game and cheered their little ones as they sang some familiar nursery rhymes. At the end of the day the tiny tot’s held their dads’ hand and went home gleefully. Fathers were excited for being given an opportunity to be with their child in school.
