SEA CREATURES COME ALIVE
On 18 January the Playschool
students had a special day ‘Sea Creatures Come
Alive’. They came dressed as different sea
creatures. They were informed about the features
and food habits of various sea creatures.
Children also sang different rhymes related to
the topic. The special day was thoroughly
enjoyed by our tiny tots.

Clean City, Green City
On 16 January the students of
the Sr. K.G. had ‘Clean City Green City’day. It
was conducted to create awareness on the
importance of conserving our natural resources
and protecting our planet Earth. Wearing gloves
the students sorted garbage into wet and dry.
They also cleaned the area by picking up the
junk and throwing it in the correct dustbins.
They were informed that the wastes in the green
dustbin can be broken down and mixed into soil
whereas the other wastes do not get mixed back
into the earth.

MOVIE WATCH
Our Playschool and our Nursery
students had a movie watch on their respective
themes, ‘Creatures Underwater’ and ‘Creepy
Crawlies’ on 16 January. They were enchanted by
the sea creatures and the different insects they
saw animated on the screen. This was followed by
an interactive session. The movies definitely
increased their knowledge on the various
creatures they saw, and was undoubtedly
thrilling for them.

KITE FLYING DAY
On 13 January our Preprimary
celebrated ‘Makar Sankranti’ – the festival of
kites. The students were informed how and why
this festival is celebrated in different states
of India. The Playschool students made
handprints on kite cutouts. Nursery students did
finger painting and they stuck square and circle
shape cut outs on their kite. The Jr.KG made
colourful kites. The Sr.KG students were taken
out doors and shown how to fly kites. All of
them had fun celebrating this festival in their
own special way.

ALPHABET TREASURE HUNT
On 12 January our Nursery
students had ‘ALPHABET TREASURE HUNT’ day.
Letters were hidden all around the classroom.
The students were also shown objects related to
the letters. The treasure hunt began with the
teacher giving clues regarding a letter and the
students trying to identify and find the letter.
They participated in the treasure hunt with
great enthusiasm.

FISHY FUN DAY
On 11 January our Play school
students enjoyed the ‘Fishy Fun Day’. They had a
Fishy Fun Race in which they had to collect fish
cutouts into a bowl. The students were excited
when they were shown a real fish. They
participated spontaneously and enjoyed the
session.

Pajama Party
On 10 January our Playschool
students had ‘Pajama Party’. They came to school
dressed in their pajamas with their favorite
soft toy .The classrooms were decorated to
create a night time ambience. Mattresses,
blankets and pillows made the room cozy and
comfortable. They were given an opportunity to
speak about their ‘going-to-bed’ routine and
then snuggled down under the cozy blankets. Our
little ones tremendously enjoyed themselves.

BUSY, BUSY SPIDER
'Busy, Busy Spider Day’ was
held on 9 January for the students of the
Nursery.
They came dressed as different characters from
the story. After the story was narrated to them
they enacted it. They also recited ‘spider
rhymes’. The students had a lot of fun and
enjoyed themselves thoroughly.

VIBGYOR VIVA 2011
VIBGYOR VIVA 2011, held in
Mumbai was a joint effort of the two VIBGYOR
High schools. With multiple venues, our premier
arts, cultural and sports event just got bigger
and better. 140 schools participated and more
than 8500 students enjoyed themselves
thoroughly, from 19 to 23 December. The school
concerts ‘Le Carnival’ and ‘The Human Spectrum’
and the Inter House Sports Meets were a delight
for all. In the Mega Final, the winners from 5
different states competed, making it a truly Pan
India event, which was telecast live on cable TV
and relayed on the internet. VIBGYOR VIVA 4EVER!

ACTIVITIES held
from 15th December to 17th December 2011
CHRISTMAS FIESTA
VIBGYOR Kids celebrated
Christmas on 15 December. The classrooms and
foyer were decorated to create an ambience of
Christmas. The students came to school in party
clothes. The Nursery students made a Santa goody
bag, the Jr. KG students, a Christmas tree and
the Sr. KG, a wreath. All of them made cards for
their parents. Later, they were treated to an
interesting movie and then played many games
which they enjoyed. Santa Claus visited every
classroom and gave each child a goody bag. It
was truly a Christmas to remember!

EXTENDED QUESTIONING STRATEGIES
The workshop on ‘Extended
Questioning Strategies’ was conducted on 17
December for the teachers of the Primary
Section. The main objective of the workshop was
to make them aware of the power of questioning
to enhance learning and motivate the learner.
They realized how effective questioning leads to
successful learning. Involving the teachers in
activities made the workshop lively and
reinforced the importance of the various
strategies.

FROGGY FUN DAY
On 23 November the Nursery
students celebrated ‘Froggy Fun Day’. To
discover more about frogs the students made some
lovely frog head gear. They were not only
introduced to a froggy fun race, where they
leaped like frogs to reach the finishing line
but they also enjoyed another fun game called
‘Froggy Froggy’. It was truly a ‘froggy’ day.

FANTASTIC MARINE FACTS
On 18 November, Sr.KG students
had a special day called ‘Fantastic Marine
Facts’, as an extension of the unit ‘Marine
Life’. Some interesting facts and colourful
pictures brought many of the strange sea
creatures to life. The students were amazed by
the information and enjoyed the entire session.
This interactive session developed in them a
feeling of awe for the marine creatures.

FARMYARD CABARET
On 11 October the Playschool
students celebrated ‘Farmyard Cabaret’ - a music
and movement session. They were dressed in farm
animal costumes that made them look really cute.
They described their costumes and then danced to
the song ‘Farmyard Cabaret’ to the accompaniment
of the tambourine. It was a fun filled session
in which the students participated
enthusiastically.

Halloween
Halloween was celebrated on 10
October in the Pre Primary. The teachers shared
information on Halloween with the students. The
Playschool students made Jack-o-Lanterns using
empty bottles. The Nursery students made
Jack-o-Lantern face masks. The Sr. KG students
made the symbol of Halloween – a lantern - out
of orange chart paper. The craft articles made
by the students were taken home as gifts for the
parents. It was a great Halloween experience.

A Colourful Day
The vivid colours of Nature
were splashed around by the Playschool children
on 7 October to mark the ‘Colour Booth Day’. The
attire of the students was in three different
colours - red, blue and yellow - to match the
ambience of the class. The students had an
opportunity to differentiate between the colours
in the various booths. It was, indeed, a vibrant
and picturesque day.

ZELDA THE ZEBRA
A puppet show on how the zebra
got its white and black stripes was put up by
the Playschool students on 5 October. It was
titled ‘Zelda the Zebra’ and was displayed in a
theatrical manner with the sound effects of the
jungle. The puppet show created the atmosphere
of wild animals in their natural habitat.

Dusshera
The Playschool, Nursery and
Jr.KG students celebrated Dusshera on 5 October.
To bring out the importance of Dusshera, they
were told the story of Ravana which depicted the
triumph of good over evil. They were made to
colour Lord Rama’s picture. The celebration
helped the students imbibe traditional ideals.

MONKEY DAY
The Playschool students
frolicked as monkeys on 4 October .They came
dressed like monkeys and danced to the melodious
song ‘Five Little Monkeys’. The classroom
portrayed a typical jungle scene. The students
had fun making paper bag puppets which they
carried home with them. They enjoyed ‘monkeying’
around.

ACTIVITIES held
on 19th September 2011
Visit to a Vet Clinic
Jr.KG students were taken on a
field trip to a Veterinary Clinic. The students
saw different breeds of dogs being treated at
the clinic. The Vet gave them a brief
explanation about how to treat animals and also
how one should take care of one’s pets. They
were also shown the healthy dog food which was
available in the clinic. It was a great learning
experience for the children and they thoroughly
enjoyed it.

WORLD FIESTA
As a finale to ‘Countries of
the World’, our Sr.KG students celebrated ‘World
Fiesta’ on 14 September. The corridor and the
classrooms were decorated with flags and
artefacts of the different countries. The
vibrant Mexican, Bhangra, Garba and Japanese
dances were presented with great vigour and
gusto. Vivid costumes added colour to the
celebrations. In the end snacks brought by the
students were sold to the parents. The cash
accrued from this celebration will be going
towards charity.

Visit to a Supermarket
This month our Playschool
students learned about different fruits and
vegetables. To give students a multi-sensorial
approach and reinforcement they were taken on a
field trip to a supermarket on 14 September.
They explored the fruit and vegetable sections
to understand the difference in their colour,
shape, taste and texture.They went through an
adult experience as they shopped for fruits and
vegetables to their hearts content.

WONDERS OF THE WORLD
13 September was a special day
for the students of Sr.KG when they were shown
pictures of the wonders of the world. They were
also informed about the unique features of these
wonders. Although they were familiar with the
Great Wall of China as they had learnt about it
earlier and some had visited the Taj Mahal, they
were awestruck to see the magnificence and
magnitude of these famous structures. Overall it
was a very informative and interactive session
for the students.

THE LION AND THE MOUSE
On 9 September our Nursery
students brought to life the story of ‘The Lion
and the Mouse’. A few students dressed as lions
and some dressed as mice for the enactment. A
puppet show depicting the story was presented
and then they dramatized the story with great
zest. It was indeed a unique way to provide them
an opportunity to exhibit their innate talent.

‘Ganpati Bappa Morya’
On 8 September our Pre Primary
students celebrated Ganesh Chaturthi. They
eagerly sang the ‘Ganesh arti’ and enjoyed
cheering ‘Ganpati Bappa Morya’. They were given
modaks as ‘prasad’. To add to the fun, they made
Ganpati wall hangings The students were
overwhelmed to see their ‘Ganpati bappa’ at
school

POTATO PARTY
On 6 September our Playschool
students had a Potato Party. They learnt about
potato – its uses, colour, shape and texture. A
variety of activities like potato printing and
carving a potato face and mashing boiled
potatoes kept the students children
enthusiastically engaged. They also danced to
the beats of the song ‘Hot Potato’. They
thoroughly enjoyed the Potato Party.

Visit to Story Land
Our Jr.KG students had to
bring their favourite storybook to school on 6
September to celebrate the special day ‘Visit to
Story Land’. The session began with the teacher
talking about her favourite story book as well
as her favourite story character. Later, each
student came forward to name his/her favourite
story book and also tell a story to their
friends. Then, they were treated to a viewing of
the movie ‘Noddy’. On the whole, the children
thoroughly enjoyed this special day.

RAMZAN EID CELEBRATION
On 30 August our Playschool,
Nursery and Sr.KG students celebrated Ramzan Eid
with zest. The students were told why and how
this festival is celebrated. The students of the
Playschool and Nursery tasted Eid specialities
like dates and ‘Sheer Korma’. The teachers also
sang a song ‘Ramzan is here today’ for the
little ones. The students of the Sr. KG made a
greeting card for their family and friends. They
wished each other ‘Eid Mubarak’. Celebrating Eid
in school was a different experience for them.

DALMATIAN DAY
Our Nursery students had a
special day on 26 August .They came dressed like
Dalmatians and enjoyed watching the movie ‘101
Dalmatians’. As a follow up activity they made a
Dalmatian mask. They finger painted black spots
on the masks which they took home to their
parents. It was undoubtedly a thrilling
experience for them

Veggie Day
On 26 August our Playschool
students celebrated Veggie Day with their
mothers. Magic painting, making a vegetable
salad and sorting vegetables from a mixed bag
kept the enthusiastic mothers and their children
happily employed. This helped our students learn
about the different kinds of vegetables, their
colour, shape and texture

PET VISIT
On 25 August our Nursery
students had ‘A Pet Visit’. A parrot named Mittu
and a tortoise named Rancho enthralled the
students with their antics. They were made aware
of the different features, food habits and the
care routine that pets require. It was a day
full of enjoyment, fun and at the same time a
concrete learning experience.

Season Booth
On 23 August our Jr.KG
students experienced the seasons through the
‘Season Booth Day’. The day began in the Summer
booth, where all the kids enjoyed making
sunflowers and drinking lemonade.In the Winter
booth, they stuck cotton balls on Christmas
trees and mitten cutouts. The Monsoon booth was
next, where they did mushroom printing and muddy
foot printing. In the Autumn booth they sorted
leaves and made a leaf collage. They truly
experienced the vibrancies of the seasons.

Sensing Senses
The Sense Station activity was
held on 23 August for Playschool students.
Different booths to acquaint them with the five
senses were set up. Through feeling rough and
smooth objects the sensation of touch was made
clear. They distinguished between sweet, sour
and bitter at the taste booth. Concentration and
fine motor skills were enhanced in the sight
booth. The students listened to musical and
other sounds in the hearing booth. They were
exposed to various fragrant and foul smells in
the smell booth. It was not only a learning
experience but also full of fun.

Power of Values
On 20 August a workshop on
‘Power of Values’ was conducted for the
Pre-Primary teachers. The main objective of this
workshop was to create awareness on the values
espoused by VIBGYOR High. The importance of
aligning one’s own values with that of the
organization was emphasized. This helped to
inculcate in our teachers a sense of personal
and professional pride in the success and growth
of self and the organization.

FRIENDSHIP DAY
Friendship Day is that special
day when we can get together and tell our
friends how important they are to us. On 5
August the Playschool and Nursery students
celebrated Friendship Day. The students were
told about the importance of this day. They
painted a strip of satin ribbon to make
friendship bands. They tied these ribbons on the
wrists of their friends. Over all it was a
memorable day for our tiny tots.

Colour Fun Day
On 11 August our Nursery
students celebrated ‘ Colour Fun Day’ through
which the concept of the colour – BLUE was
introduced through various fun activities. The
ambience of the class was cheerful as all the
mobiles were in blue and the students too came
dressed in blue. The vibrance of the colour blue
was creatively taught through starch painting,
sorting blue beads from a bowl of assorted
colours and dancing with blue streamers. The fun
they had swept away all their ‘blues’.

INDIA DAY
On 12 August our Playschool,
Nursery and Jr.KG students celebrated ‘India
Day’. The significance of the colours of the
national flag was explained to them. This was
followed by different activities. The Playschool
students finger painted a head band, the nursery
students made a badge and the Jr. KG students
hand printed the map of India. All this was done
using the three colours of the flag. They sang
the National Anthem and danced to the music of
‘Nana Munna Rahi Hoon’. Independence Day was
commemorated with great patriotic fervour by our
tiny tots.

PROUD TO BE AN INDIAN
On 9 August, Sr. K.G.
celebrated a special day called ‘Proud to be an
Indian’ as an extension of the unit ‘Our India’.
Each child was asked to get a picture of any
person who has made a difference to the country
in any field. Children were asked what they like
about their country. Pictures of great Indian
personalities were shown to them. The meaning
and importance of the National Anthem was
explained and the students were made to repeat
the words after the teacher. Finally a ‘Proud to
be an Indian’ collage made by the students was
displayed.

HUM HINDUSTANI
To commemorate our
Independence Day the Sr. KG celebrated a special
day on 12 August titled ‘Hum Hindustani’. The
fervour of patriotism was instilled in the
students by showing them the map of India, the
national flag, the national bird, the national
flower, the national sport, and inspiring them
with anecdotes of the freedom fighters. They
sang the National Anthem and listened to many
patriotic songs. The true spirit of nationalism
was inculcated in our little ones.

PARSI NEW YEAR
On 17 August Playschool,
Nursery, Jr.KG and Sr.KG students celebrated
Parsi New Year. The students were told how and
why the festival is celebrated and the
importance of fire to the Parsis. In the Jr.KG
and Sr. KG a boy and a girl from each class were
asked to come dressed in traditional Parsi
clothes. Every student created a rangoli pattern
on black chart paper using coloured chalk. They
had a great time and enjoyed themselves
thoroughly.

Amazing Journey Inside the Body
Adventure, excitement,
discovery, enjoyment………… yes! That is what a
journey is all about. The students of Sr. KG had
the same feeling on the special day when they
had an “Amazing Journey inside the Body” which
was held on 20 June. They were made aware of
certain amazing facts related to the internal
organs like brain, heart, lungs and stomach.
Thereafter they went to a room which was set up
to help them explore their senses of sight,
hearing, taste, smell and touch. It was a
thrilling experience for all the kids.

SING ALONG MUMMY
On 21 June we celebrated ’Sing
Along Mummy’ day with our Nursery children.
The mothers came to school in the second half of
the day. While the children sang the songs with
actions along with their mummies the teacher
accompanied them on a keyboard. The children
also sang a special song ‘I Love You’ dedicating
it to their mothers. The song and dance session
on this day was enjoyed by all.

Colour Fun Day
The Pre-Primary children
celebrated the ‘Colour Fun Day’ on 5th April,
2011. The classrooms were decorated with black
and white objects, streamers and balloons. The
teachers and children were dressed in black and
white clothes. A collage activity was conducted
and was followed by a streamer race. The
children had fun doing the classroom collage
which was later displayed on the board. They had
a great time dancing with a bunch of black and
white streamers.

Musical Feet In Colours
An activity with colours was
conducted for Senior KG children on 5th April,
2011. The children had to move their feet
according to the music. They were divided into
two groups wherein one group did the activity
with colours, while the other group wrote and
drew on slates. The children followed the
instructions and splashed about in the tub of
water the teacher indicated. The activity was
well planned to beat the summer heat and the
children enjoyed it thoroughly.

Visit To The Dentist
As an extension to learning
experience in the class, a visit to the dentist
was organized for the Junior KG children on 8th
April, 2011. The dentist showed the children his
tools and equipment and also gave a mock
demonstration of how he treats his patients. The
doctor conducted a dental check for a few
children. He showed the children the correct
method of brushing their teeth and imparted
information on oral hygiene. The children
enjoyed themselves and left the clinic with a
smile. This visit proved to be very beneficial
for each one of us.

Graduation Day
A Graduation Ceremony was
conducted for the Senior KG children on 8th
April, 2011. The children had made, decorated
and personalized the invitation cards for their
parents to invite them to the ceremony. The
excitement was evident as they wore their
convocation hats and scarves and recited the
poem, ‘First Grade, First Grade’. Each of them
received a certificate for the completion of
their Pre-Primary academic years. Parents were
also proud to see their children graduating from
Pre- Primary to Primary. It was a memorable
occasion for the tiny tots and their families.
