ACTIVITIES held from
15th March to 21st March 2011
Fun with Colours
The Junior KG children had an
opportunity to explore with colours on 18th
March, 2011. They wore aprons, sat on the
chairs, held a paintbrush between their toes,
dipped it in paint and had fun painting on a
paper. To add on to the fun element of this
session, the students blew bubbles with coloured
soapy water. They had a great time dancing to
the music, too.

Holi Celebration
On 18th March, 2011 the
Pre-primary children celebrated Holi- the
festival of colours. The teacher narrated the
story of Prahlad and wicked Holika in the class.
The children heard with amazement about the
victory of good over evil when Holika got burnt
in the fire and Prahlad was saved. The children
of Senior KG enacted the story while the Junior
KG children coloured a picture on Holi. The
Nursery children made Holi greeting cards and
the Playschool kids celebrated Holi with water
play, throwing and splashing water on each
other. The children had delicacies like jalebis,
gujjias and puranpolis and sung a song on Holi.

Navroz Celebration
On 21st March, 2011 the
Pre-Primary children celebrated the Parsi
festival called “Jamshed–e– Navroz.” The
children learned how this festival is celebrated
on the first day of the first month of the
Zoroastrian year to welcome the spring season.
The children were also told how Parsis decorate
their houses and the special traditional food
and drink they make for the day. They learnt
about the Fire temple or ‘Agiary’ and how the
Parsis greet each other by saying “Sal Mubarak.”
The children relished the delicacies of this
festival.

Visit to a Petrol Pump
On 16th March, 2011 the Junior
KG children were taken on a field trip to the
‘Petrol Pump’ as they were learning about
Transport. The teacher talked about the
equipments kept at the pump and informed them
about the petrol meter and air pump. The petrol
pump attendant showed the children how to fill
petrol or diesel in the fuel tank of the
vehicles. The children really enjoyed watching
the cars being washed at the petrol pump. It was
a great learning experience for our children.

A Visit to a Studio
On 15th March, 2011 the
children of Senior KG went on a field trip to
the ‘Swati Studio’ at Goregaon (East). The
studio had a hospital set up for the serial
‘Behane’ on Star Plus. Once they reached Film
City, the children were briefed about the people
who make films and were shown equipments used
for the same. They were also introduced to the
director, producer, cameraman, a few technicians
and actors. The children enjoyed interacting
with the TV stars and were excited to have their
photographs clicked with the crew. Overall, it
was a stimulating experience for the children.

Conflict Management
A workshop on Conflict
Management was conducted for the teachers on
19th March, 2011. The causes of conflicts, their
repercussions and methods of conflict management
were discussed. The workshop started with an ice
breaker session wherein the class was divided
into two groups and each group tried to prove
their points of view. There were healthy
arguments and discussions and all the teachers
participated with zeal and fervour. The workshop
ended with a quiz and every right answer was
awarded a STAR i.e. Stop Think Analyze Respond.

ACTIVITIES held from

Baking Day
As per the theme of the month
‘Community Helpers,’ our Playschool children
celebrated a special ‘Baking Day’ on 9th March,
2011. The class was setup like a bakery with
mock breads, buns, cakes and pastries. A
Playschool parent was invited to give a special
demo on baking of a cake. She came pretending to
be a Baker and mixed the ingredients in front of
the children and decorated the pre prepared cake
with the icing on it. Later the children
relished the cake. It was a real treat for them.

Businessman Visit
Senior KG on 7th March, 2011.
This was conducted as a reinforcement session of
the theme ‘Where do things come from?’ The
Businessman spoke about the new inventions used
in offices. He spoke about how communication has
become faster through telephone, fax, mobiles
and computers. The children were also briefed
about the advances in transportation, equipment,
storing, television and radio. The day concluded
with the students asking questions to the
Businessman and clearing their doubts. Thus the
session was very informative for the children.

ACTIVITIES held from
16th February to 18th February 2011
Solar System Day
On 16th February, 2011 Senior
KG students had a Special Day called ‘The Solar
System Day’. This day was conducted to reinforce
the concept of the ‘Universe’. Children came
dressed as planets, astronauts, Moon, Sun and
aliens. Some children wore simple cutouts around
their necks whereas some wore costumes made of
bubble paper, paper bags etc. Each child was
given an opportunity to talk about what he or
she had come dressed as. The atmosphere in the
class was wonderful with lots of excited
chatter. The children thoroughly enjoyed this
day.

Visit to a Fire Station
The Nursery children were
taken on a field trip to the Fire Station on
17th February, 2011 as per the theme ’People at
work.’ At the Fire Station the children were
told about the importance of the Fireman and how
he helps us. They were also shown the uniform
and the helmet of the Fireman. They were
introduced to the Fire Engine, its different
equipments and how they are used. The children
were also given a demonstration on how a Fireman
puts out a fire. Overall it was an exciting day
for the children at the Fire Station.

Visit to a Florist
Junior KG children got an
opportunity to visit the Florist on 18th
February, 2011. The Florist gave the children
information on different types of flowers and
demonstrated how to arrange colourful flowers in
a basket and hand bouquet. He also showed the
children artificial flowers which are used to
decorate houses. The teacher talked about the
features of different flowers and reinforced the
concept taught in class. The beautiful flowers
brought a smile on our children’s faces.

10th February to 15th February 2011
Check Your Teeth Day
As per the theme of the month,
on 10th February, 2011 Nursery children were
introduced to the community helper ‘Dentist’.
The Special day started by giving the children
information about how the dentist treats our
teeth and gums, and gives medicines,
particularly if we have a cavity. Later, the
teacher who pretended to be a dentist checked
the teeth of all the children. They were
instructed on how to brush their teeth and keep
them healthy by eating the right kind of food.
The day ended by singing songs related to the
topic. Overall it was a very informative
session.

Colour Fun Day
The special day “Colour Fun
day” was conducted on 11th February, 2011. The
classrooms were decorated with purple coloured
objects, streamers and balloons. The teachers
and children were dressed in purple clothes. The
entire ambience of the classroom was very
cheerful. The day was brimming with activities
like Purple Collage, Purple Streamer Race, Noisy
Purple and Dancing with Purple Streamers. All
the children enjoyed doing the classroom collage
which was later displayed on the board. The
celebration was a great way to recapitulate the
concept – Colour PURPLE.

The Shoemaker and The Elves
Puppets can stimulate
children's imagination, encourage creative play
and are a wonderful interactive way to introduce
theme concepts. On 15th February, 2011 our
Nursery children celebrated a special day “Shoe
Maker and The Elves Story” through a puppet
show. The class was decorated with the different
tools of a cobbler. The children were very
excited to see puppets of the Shoemaker and
Elves talking. The children were extremely
fascinated by the puppet show and happily danced
along with them.

Fantastic Flowers
On 14th February, 2011 a
special day was planned for Junior KG called the
“FANTASTIC FLOWERS.” The special day was
conducted by doing two activities. The first
activity was ‘Seed turns into a Flower’ where
the children dramatized the stages involved in
the life cycle of a flower. The second activity
was where the children finger painted on the
flower cut-outs to enhance their creativity.

Valentine‘s Day
The festival of Love,
Valentine’s Day was celebrated on 14th February,
2011 by Pre-Primary children. The teachers sang
songs on this occasion related to the festival.
Nursery children were given ‘I love you’ cards
for their parents. The children were told the
story about St. Valentine, Cupid and the reason
for the celebration of the festival. The little
ones then had a Valentine treat where they made
heart shaped jam sandwiches decorated with gems.
Senior KG children made a Valentine greeting
card for their parents which they happily took
home.

Baking Day
On 7th February, 2011 our
Nursery children celebrated the Special Day-
‘What Do Chefs Do?’ The class was set up like a
bakery with breads, buns, cakes and pastries.
They were introduced to a baker who demonstrated
how to bake a cake. She showed them the process
of mixing the ingredients for a cake and then
iced and decorated a cake. The session was very
interactive and fun filled. The children were
then treated to the lip smacking cake brought by
the baker.

A Carpenter’s Visit
On 4th February, 2011 our
Nursery children had a special ‘Carpenter Visit
Day.’ The school carpenter visited the classroom
in the morning and demonstrated the use of
different carpentry tools and how he used them
to make furniture. This was followed by an art
activity in which the children made a tree out
of saw dust and then printed leaves for the
tree. The carpentry tool corner displayed tools
like peg sets and toy hammers. The children were
encouraged to use them and pretend to be
carpenters. It was a busy day for our little
carpenters at work.

Getting into a Doctor’s Shoes
On 3rd February, 2011 our
Nursery children had a fun session ‘Doctor and
Nurse Dress Up Day’, after learning about these
community helpers. They came dressed as doctors
and nurses and were acquainted with their
importance in our lives. A clinic was set up in
the class where all the instruments used by
doctors and nurses were displayed. The children
pretended to be doctors checking their patients
and the nurses assisted the doctors and helped
them treat the patients. They sang songs related
to the topic and had loads of fun celebrating
this day.

Ants Go Marching
The ‘Ants Go Marching’ day was
conducted on 7th February, 2011. The children
came dressed like ants in beautiful costumes and
they also carried suitable props. The special
day began with the singing of the song ‘Ants Go
Marching’. Later they enthralled the teachers
with a music and movement session where they
danced to the song ‘Ants Parade’. It was an
incredible experience to see our little ones
parading together.

ET Comes to School
The special day ‘ET Comes to
School’ related to the unit ‘Our Universe’ was
conducted on 8th February, 2011. The children
were told about the probability of life on Mars
and the existence of aliens. They also watched a
movie on ‘ET’ which they found exciting. The
amazing powers of the aliens and their space
ships fascinated them. Later, they recalled and
illustrated what they had seen in the movie.
They enjoyed giving their alien and the planet
from which they imagined it had come, a name. It
was a thrilling day full of fun.

The Ultimate Stress Buster
On 5th February, 2011 the
Junior KG teachers had a workshop to train them
on how to cope with stress. The session began
with an ice breaker activity in which the
participants had to identify where they felt
stress in their body. This was followed by a
stress test which helped them understand the
level of stress in their bodies. They were then
given case studies where they formulated an
appropriate solution for it and this was
followed with a discussion on techniques and
strategies to get rid of stress. This session
enlightened teachers how to cope with stress in
their lives.

Sea Creatures Come Alive
On 20th January, 2011 our
Playschool children celebrated a special day
‘Sea Creatures Come Alive.’ It was a fun session
to learn about sea creatures. The children were
dressed up as sea creatures. The class was set
up with blue gelatine paper, sea weeds, shells
and cut-outs of different sea creatures to liven
up the atmosphere of life under water. The
children were acquainted with the features and
food habits of various sea creatures and sang
different songs related to the topic. Our tiny
tots had loads of fun celebrating this day.

Beautiful Birds
On 20th January, 2011, Junior
Kg children got a closer picture of birds
through a special day planned for them called
‘Beautiful Birds.’ During the “Bird Watch’
activity, the children viewed a video on
different birds. The children were very excited
watching the exotic bird. They enjoyed drawing
the different stages of the life cycle of a bird
in their mini book of ‘A Chick Hatches’. This
special day was conducted with the hope that
just likes birds, our children also amaze us
with their power of flight in the challenging
world.

Recycling Day
On 20th January, 2011 Senior
Kg children had a special day called Recycling
Day based on the theme ‘Protect Our Planet.’
Teachers explained the term ‘Recycle’ and how
natural resources available today should be
conserved and used sparingly so that they can be
used over a longer period of time. Simple ways
to save and conserve our natural resources were
shared with the children. They learnt a song
‘Recycling in my home.’ Children made small
carry bags out of newspaper, painted a smiley
with yellow paint on it and took it home.

Visit to a National Park
On 21st January, 2011 Senior
Kg children were taken to a field trip to
reinforce their concepts on the theme ‘Protect
Our Planet.’ The children had already learnt
about the importance of conservation of plants
and trees. They reached the garden in the
morning and went for a nature walk within the
garden. The teachers explained the various types
of plants and trees and allowed the children to
play with the sand toys they had brought with
them. It was a magnificent learning experience
for them.

Republic Day Celebration
On 24th January, 2011
Pre-Primary section celebrated Republic Day
where children came dressed up in the tri-colour
clothes enthused with the spirit of patriotism.
They were briefed about the national flag,
national bird, and national flower and were also
told why Republic Day is celebrated. Various
creative activities such as making tri-coloured
badges were conducted for the children which
they enjoyed thoroughly. At the end of the
session children stood up and sang the national
anthem and the song ‘Nanha munha raahi hoon’.

Fishy Fun
On 12th January, 2011 our
Playschool children had a special Fishy Fun Day.
The teacher brought a real fish in class and
shared information about the fish and the
different parts of its body. The children played
a very interesting game “Fishy Fun Race” where
in they had to stand at the starting line with a
fishing rod. The teacher whistled and the
children ran to collect the fish cut out placed
on the tracks and kept it in the tray. Later
they carried the tub and ran to the finishing
line. The children participated enthusiastically
and enjoyed the session.

Pyjama Party
On 11th January, 2011 our Playschool children had a special “Pyjama Party”. The children had come to school dressed in their pyjamas with their favourite soft toy .The classrooms were decorated with stars and moon cut-outs. Mattresses, blankets and pillows were laid out to make the room cosy. Students had to pretend that it is night and they had to follow the night routine. The teacher told them a bed time story and our little ones cuddled with their toy in the bed. The party was enjoyed tremendously by our playschool children.
Workshop on Interpersonal Communication
A workshop on Interpersonal Communication was conducted for the Pre-Primary teachers on 14th January, 2011. The workshop began with a humorous ice breaker game which made the teachers realise the importance of effective communication. The definition and meaning of Interpersonal communication was explained. Different types of communication and barriers to communication were also explained. The workshop finally concluded with a hilarious video of Charlie Chaplin which is an excellent example of non-verbal communication.

Kite Flying Day
On 13th January, 2011 the Pre-primary kids celebrated Makar Sankranti – the Festival of Kites. Senior Kg children drew a picture of a person flying a kite. Junior Kg teachers imparted information about how this festival is celebrated in different states of India. The children eagerly made patterns using crayons. Playschool children were given kite cut-outs on which they made handprints. Nursery children did finger painting on their kites. The children were taken out and shown how to fly kites. Pre-primary children had fun celebrating this festival in their own special way.
Clean City Green City
On 18th January, 2011 Senior Kg celebrated a special day called ‘Clean City Green City’ to learn about the importance of conserving our natural resources and protecting our planet Earth. This special day was conducted to create awareness in the children about keeping the environment clean. They were also taught how to sort out garbage. They sifted the wet and dry garbage and put them in separate dustbins. The children were also informed about which waste can be broken down and mixed into the soil and which cannot. The children enjoyed the unique experience thoroughly.

Busy, Busy Spider
A special day – “The Busy, Busy Spider” was held on 10th January, 2011 in which each child was given a character and they had to come dressed accordingly. It was a brilliant effort by the parents to dress their children in colourful costumes and provide appropriate props for their characters. The story, “The Busy, Busy Spider”, a very good reinforcement for the concept of ‘Spider’ and ‘Farm animals’, was woven around different farm animals and their sounds. Children thoroughly loved and enjoyed the session. The parents were also appreciated for their zeal and enthusiasm.

Birdie Dance
Birdie Dance Day was held on 26th November. The children of the Playschool came dressed as different birds and presented some very creative and innovative costumes. They came forward one by one and informed their friends about the features and food habits of the birds. They danced the “Birdie Dance” and pretended to fly in the class by flapping their wings. It was a real delight to see our little birdies dancing.

Underwater Sea Creatures
On 26th November our Nursery children had a special UNDERWATER ADVENTURE DAY. They came to school dressed as sea creatures. The class was converted into a seascape with blue gelatin paper, sea weeds, and shells and cutouts of different sea creatures to enliven the atmosphere. The students sang different songs on marine life and had loads of fun.

Octopus Art
On 26th November, Jr.KG children enjoyed a Special Day called Octopus Art Day. They had loads of fun painting white chart paper with sponge using green paint. After the paper dried, they drew eyes and a mouth with a black marker, cut the octopus outline out of that paper and hung the sea creatures from the octopus’s arms. Octopus Art helped the children develop their creativity and reinforced the concept of marine creatures taught in the class.

The Shark Tale
The Jr. KG children enjoyed a Special Day. It was ‘Shark Tale’ movie watch on 26th November. The teacher gave the children a gist of the movie before they viewed it. The children had fun watching it and were very excited to see different underwater creatures. This movie helped our little ones recapitulate what they had learnt about marine creatures .

Visit To An Aquarium
On 30th November, the Jr. KG children went on a field trip to an Aquarium. They were filled with excitement and enthusiasm which they vocalised with numerous questions as the teacher drew their attention to the different types of fish, spoke about their characteristics and their food. The children were overawed to watch the fish swim by and each longed for a pet fish of his own.

Froggy Fun
On 24th November, our Nursery children celebrated “FROGGY FUN DAY”. At the start of the day our little artists made frog headgear by painting frog cutouts green and putting black spots on them. They were then introduced to a Froggy fun race in which they had to leap like a frog and reach the finish line. They participated spontaneously and enjoyed the session.

Teddy’s Day Out
On 23rd November, our Playschool children celebrated Teddy Bear Day. They came to school with their teddy bears. The teacher encouraged them to speak about their little toy. The children took their teddy bears on an outdoor picnic where they pretended to feed and care for them. They enjoyed a melodious singing session during the picnic.

Children’s Day
On 22nd November , Pre-school Vibgyorites celebrated Chacha Nehru’s birthday with gusto. They came dressed in party attire. Various activities like making paper plate frogs and sponge painting of Fred the frog, were immensely enjoyed by them. The puppet show, which followed, kept them mesmerized. Later, they drew their interpretation of the puppet show which revealed their creativity. A most memorable day indeed!

Halloween
Halloween was celebrated on 28th October. Playschool children made Jack-o Lanterns using empty Bisleri bottles. Nursery children made peek-a-boo Halloween masks using paper plates. Jr. K.G. children enjoyed making the Witch’s Hat while the Sr. K.G. made lanterns out of orange chart paper and stuck black cutouts of scary faces on them. Celebrating Halloween created a spooky feeling all over the school. The children thoroughly enjoyed scaring their friends.

Getting Traditional
On 29th October 2010, Pre-Primary children came dressed in ethnic wear. The teacher explained the significance of Diwali to the students. The Playschool children decorated their earthen diyas with glitter and sequins. The Nursery children made lanterns. Jr.K.G children made colorful ‘torans’ and ‘diyas’. Sr. K.G Children made wind chimes with thermocol glasses. They enthusiastically participated in games, danced to the tune of traditional songs and made bright and colourful Diwali cards to carry home. It was a delightful day for our tiny tots.

Discipline Management
VIBGYOR is proud of its constant endeavour to enhance teacher effectiveness by conducting regular In-house training workshops for the teachers. A well-designed module, prepared by VITT (VIBGYOR Institute of Teacher Training) is sent every month by the CO to the centres, where these workshops are conducted by the Section Heads.
Discipline cannot be forced; it should be instilled, so as to make the child distinguish between acceptable and unacceptable behaviour.On 23 October 2010 a workshop on Discipline Management was conducted for the Pre-Primary teachers with the help of role play and power point presentations. Finding Nemo
The Nursery children had a Special Day on 25th October 2010 on the theme Water World. The children viewed a VCD ’Finding Nemo’ where children got the opportunity to see different kinds of sea creatures on a big screen. After watching the movie they had a follow up activity through an interactive session to discuss what they had viewed. This session enhanced their understanding of these animals and was undoubtedly a thrilling experience for them.
Colour Fun Day
A Colour Fun day was celebrated on 27th October . It was an “Orange Day” where all the classrooms were decorated with orange coloured objects. The teachers and children were dressed in orange coloured clothes. Various activities were organized for the children such as Orange Collage , Sorting orange inter star links, Noisy orange and Dancing with orange streamers. The children had fun doing the classroom collage activity which was later displayed on the board. It was an amazing day bringing both joy and learning for the children.

Fantastic Marine Facts
On 27 October 2010, Sr. K.G. celebrated a Special Day called ‘Fantastic Marine Facts’ as they were learning about marine life. The session began with the reading of some interesting facts about marine creatures. Children were asked to source some facts about sea creatures. Some brought interesting pictures while others made beautiful cutouts with facts written on them. They were amazed to hear the facts and the teachers even asked questions based on these facts as a recap. Overall it was an interactive and informative session.

Ocean Wall
The children of Sr. K.G. had a Special Day called Ocean wall on 22 October as a part of the theme ‘Marine Creatures’. Children painted cutouts of fish and jelly fish and stuck strips of cellophane paper as tentacles on the jellyfish. They twisted green crepe paper to make sea weeds. Finally they painted two chart papers with blue paint to create the impression of an ocean. The colourful marine creatures were stuck on the ocean to create an ocean wall. This was displayed in the class.
